New England Youth Cycling
New England Youth Cycling (NEYC) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the goal of getting more kids on bikes. They're a youth development organization that supports racing and riding for kids in grades 5-12, plus a development riding program serving grades K-5. Established in 2017, the league already had a solid base of content & members within its fold. The goal of our collaboration with the their leadership team was to take their on-line presence to an entirely new level.
How can we improve the overall experience of both viewers AND league managers from a design & technology standpoint?
Hired Hand Design was tasked with improving the overall "web" experience for New England Youth Cycling, its members, and its races. That "experience" included helping viewers learn about NEYC's events & getting folks to easily register for them. It also included improving the "race day" experience - how viewers could utilize and access important information such as directions, where to park, race day schedules, accessing live results, and even finding photos - all of which would need to work on mobile phones on cellular networks at the event sites. And all of this would need to be created in an existing content management system (CMS) to keep overall costs down.
In an on going collaboration with New England Youth Cycling, we've systematically worked through design requirements as well as constraints to create a very functional, mobile-friendly website. Whether student athletes & their families view the site on desktop, tablet, or mobile phone the experience they have is still tailored to maximize the screen-size they're viewing the website from. The larger screen layout offers a richer, more visually expansive experience while the smaller, mobile screen layout places a higher premium on concise & consistent organization of race information. The very same website - just tailored the viewer.
